The Brain Book by David Eagleman

The first question that came into my mind while starting this book was

Why Brain?

So basically this book is about the brain . Brain the most important organ in the human body which is the controller and the coordinator. As in a computer we have the CPU and here we have the brain without that all our life is not possible .

This book covers the history, significance , scientific theory and all possibilities

which may arise in functioning of brain.

This is the basic book for a beginner who wants to know about the scientific theories and want to develop a taste in understanding the brain.

There are basically 6 chapters starting from the information of the brain, today and the future possibilities reality control decision making process.

Before You Start - This text which you are reading is also available in the video and audio format , so you can check the link given below and I hope that you enjoy from this amazing journey exploring your brain .

Thank you

Chapter 01 :

In the first chapter he talks about the development of brain in a child.

He said that a child has over 100 trillion neurons retain them in its memory double the number of an adult, and how a child start to make connections ,start to make pattern and try to recognize people and also to retain in its memory.

This books talk about the consciousness of a child and in sculpting the adolescence brain it focuses on shaping of circuits during the teen years.

He says that adolescence is a time of steep cognitive change. That is why there is the difference between the adult and the teen the major reason is

1. The emotional significance of a situation in other words we call it as guilt.

2. This self evaluation

3. Social awkwardness

4. Emotional hypersensitivity.

From the first two the adult brain has grown accustomed to think where is the last two to the teen brain is set up to take risk and they followed the path of rewards and incentives. It also talk about the development of a child in peer pressure and prone to peer motivated behavior.

He talks about the plasticity in adulthood and it is the best example that how a child or a teen are quick learners where is adults are slower.

What is the concept of CLAY ?

Here CLAY refers to to the development of the brain, when we are making a sculpture , the clay is soft at the initial and it can be molded in desired shape but after sometime if its get hard like adults you can't change the shape later, I have briefly describe about this in my videos and my audio so you can check it out.

It also describes about the conscious and the subconscious mind how our information's are stored in conscious and subconscious mind.

What happens when our brain ages ?

Why does some people suffer from brain diseases such as as Alzheimer, Stroke and Parkinson ?

What is the importance of social life and how it affects the brain?

How do we guess the pattern?

He says " You don't perceive objects as they are. You perceive them as you are" .

Chapter 02 :

In Chapter 2 he talks about the reality and FAKE "Jo dikhta hai wo hota nahi".

He says how our brain interpret the environment. As the brain is not physically available to nature whereas its uses its interpretation of the five senses.

He says " our perception of reality has less to do do with what's happening inside our brain.

Everything we experience around us light, sound, feel, smell and taste. The brain interpret by its electrochemical pattern into a useful understanding that is by detecting the patterns that allow us to make guess.

He describes about the new technologies that can fool a brain.

How a blind can do rock climbing with advanced technology

Why in a start of a race use the sound of a shotgun not laser light where is the light travels faster than the sound. He says that our senses are the only source to collect the data from the environment and our brain is the Processing Unit which processes this data and make a pattern.

The question arises that why does the brain does not interpret the very important detail without our consciousness ? As maybe it consumes a lot of energy.

He says the importance of colour in decision making due to activation of the biological receptors to pick up the signals from the other parts of our body.

The brain light up the world with their own sensuality.
